How do I check a second-hand Disney baby sleeping bag for a UK recall?
Which official notices actually name Disney-character bags?
Parents type Disney, Winnie, Dumbo, Lion King or Stitch plus "sleeping bag recall" and land on supermarket news. The UK record is the OPSS list. On 10 September 2026, two published notices named character sleep bags sold on the high street. This page names only those models. A bag that looks like a film character but is not on these tables is not found — that is not a clearance.

| Notice | Retailer / brand | Hazard in the official record | Character names on the notice |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2603-0245, published 8 April 2026 | Matalan Retail Ltd | Neck opening can stretch; baby may slip inside (suffocation) | Winnie the Pooh and Lumpy; Bambi; Dumbo; Winnie the Pooh. Tatty Ted is also listed — it is not a Disney print |
| 2306-0073, published 26 June 2023 | George Home, sold by Asda | Snap buttons can loosen and detach (choking) | Stitch; The Lion King; Dumbo. Five further George Home prints on the same notice are not Disney |
Not found ≠ safe. A second-hand Dumbo bag from another shop, or a Disney bag with a different barcode, is not covered by these two notices. Search the exact brand and code on GOV.UK.
How do I match a used Matalan bag to notice 2603-0245?
The Matalan notice lists sales codes and barcodes. Copy every digit from the sewn-in label or the barcode panel — do not match on the cartoon alone.

| Name on the notice | Sales period | Code | Barcode |
|---|---|---|---|
| Matalan Winnie the Pooh and Lumpy Sleep Bag | 7 July 2025 to 13 March 2026 | C295792 | 295792000019 |
| Matalan Bambi Sleep Bag | 25 August 2025 to 13 March 2026 | C295833 | 295833000015 |
| Matalan Dumbo Sleep Bag | 25 August 2025 to 13 March 2026 | C295842 | 2295842000020 |
| Matalan Tatty Ted Sleep Bag | 3 November 2025 to 12 March 2026 | C296328 | 296328000015 |
| Matalan Winnie the Pooh Sleep Bag | 12 January 2026 to 12 March 2026 | C296559 | 2296559000013 |
Official records show a suffocation hazard because the neck opening can stretch during reasonably foreseeable use. The products did not meet the General Product Safety Regulations 2005. The notice says Matalan has recalled the bags from end users and tells owners to stop using them and return them to a Matalan store. It stated that no receipt was required.
How do I match a used Asda George Home bag to notice 2306-0073?
The Asda / George Home notice names eight 1 tog models in 0–6 months, 6–18 months and 18–36 months. Disney-facing prints on that list are Stitch, The Lion King and Dumbo. The other five prints sit on the same recall even if you searched for Disney.

| Name on the notice | Sizes / tog | Barcodes |
|---|---|---|
| Stitch Sleep Bag | 0–6, 6–18, 18–36 months, 1 tog | 5063089070925, 5063089070932, 5063089070944 |
| The Lion King Sleep Bag | 0–6, 6–18, 18–36 months, 1 tog | 5057172999835, 5057172999842, 5057172999859 |
| Dumbo Sleep Bag | 0–6, 6–18, 18–36 months, 1 tog | 5063089000014, 5063089000021, 5063089000038 |
| Happy Floral; 2pk Natural Safari; Rainbow; Dino; Bunny Floral | Same size set, 1 tog | See the GOV.UK table — these five are on the same notice |
The hazard on this notice is choking: snap buttons can become loose and detach. That is a different defect from the Matalan neck-opening notice. The corrective action is a recall from end users; the page tells owners to stop using the product and return it to a local Asda. Asda also published a corporate recall page at corporate.asda.com.
How do I check a Facebook or charity-shop bag before I take it home?
- Photograph every identifier Brand (Matalan, George Home, or another name), print, size, sales code, barcode / EAN, and any batch line. Character art without a code is not enough.
- Match digits, not the film name Open 2603-0245 and 2306-0073 and compare the code or barcode character by character. "Dumbo" appears on both notices with different codes and different hazards.
- Search GOV.UK for leftover wording If the bag is Disney-branded but the retailer is not Matalan or Asda, type the brand, model and barcode into the OPSS list. Do not stop at these two notices.
- Read the corrective-action line A listed match means stop using the bag and follow the retailer route on that notice. Selling a recalled product knowingly can be an offence under UK product-safety law.
If my Disney bag is not on those two notices, is it cleared?
No. Not found means those two notices do not name your code. It does not mean OPSS has tested the bag, and it does not mean a later notice cannot appear. Other shops sell licensed prints; those products are simply not in the tables above.
- A Primark, Tesco, supermarket-own or marketplace Disney bag needs its own GOV.UK search.
- A Matalan or George print that is not in the tables is outside those notices — still search the live list.
- The Lullaby Trust tells families to check recalls before using second-hand sleep products and to look for BS EN 16781:2018 on sleep bags.
In shortMatch barcode or sales code to 2603-0245 or 2306-0073. Listed: stop using it and follow that notice. Not listed: you have cleared those two records only. Search GOV.UK again with the exact label.
Why do leftover Disney searches still belong on GOV.UK?
Character bags keep circulating on second-hand sites long after a supermarket recall. The live OPSS list is the place leftover names should go, because local news reprints go stale and do not pick up a widened batch. Re-run the brand + barcode search when you are offered a bag, not once a year.
Matalan's own website can show a different current recall (when checked, the customer-services recall page led with another product). Use the GOV.UK notice as the record for the sleep bags named above.
Questions parents ask
- Is every Dumbo sleeping bag recalled?
- No. Dumbo appears on both 2603-0245 (Matalan code C295842) and 2306-0073 (George Home barcodes starting 50630890000). A Dumbo bag from another retailer is not named on those notices. Search the exact code on GOV.UK.
- Tatty Ted is not Disney. Why is it on this page?
- It sits on the same Matalan notice as the Winnie, Bambi and Dumbo lines. If you are emptying a second-hand bag of supermarket sleep bags, that code is in scope even though the print is not a film character.
- The seller says the bag is "recall-free". Is that enough?
- Ask for photos of the code and barcode and run the search yourself. Sellers rarely re-check after they bought the bag, and notices are added over time.
- Can I still return a second-hand bag to Matalan or Asda?
- Each notice sets its own terms. The Matalan page said no receipt was required; the Asda page told owners to return the bag to a local store. Take the bag and the PSD number. MayTally does not handle refunds.
