MayTally is an independent information site. We are not HMRC, the Department for Work and Pensions, the NHS, a local authority, or any other public body. A result on this site is not an award, a decision, or a statement of your official entitlement.

If our wording and an official page disagree, follow the official page.

We are not authorised or regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.

Nothing on MayTally is financial advice, investment advice, tax advice, or a personal recommendation. That includes:

• whether to claim or stop Child Benefit
• how to treat the High Income Child Benefit Charge
• whether Tax-Free Childcare or Universal Credit childcare is “better” for you
• mentions of Junior ISAs, children’s savings, or other money products
• any comparison of pounds, hours, or tapers

Not tax, legal, or immigration advice

Calculator notes about income, tax years, and charges are general information. They are not a tax computation and not a substitute for HMRC guidance or a qualified tax adviser.

We do not give immigration advice. Flags such as no recourse to public funds (NRPF) only affect whether a rule module can form an estimate. They are not a view on your status, your visa, or what you are allowed to claim. If this applies to you, use official guidance or a regulated immigration adviser.

Not medical or clinical advice

Pages about Healthy Start, free NHS prescriptions and dental care in pregnancy, vitamins, or feeding are scheme information, not clinical advice. They do not tell you what you or your child should eat, take, or do. Speak to an NHS professional if you need medical advice.

Estimates are not guarantees

The calculator estimates what a household might be missing from published rules for a named tax year (currently 2026-27 unless a page says otherwise).

Treat every pound figure, weekly rate, and free-hours total as illustrative. We do not promise you will receive £X, or any amount. Outcomes depend on your full circumstances, evidence you give to the department, and rules in force on the day you apply.

Budgets and statutory instruments change rates. A page that was checked on a given date can be overtaken. We list sources and checked-on dates where we show a figure; those dates are part of the result, not decoration.

Do not use a MayTally estimate as evidence in a claim, an appeal, a tax return, or a dispute.

Official sources take precedence

For benefits and official childcare schemes, start from the government page for that scheme, for example:

• Healthy Start
• Sure Start Maternity Grant

England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland do not always run the same schemes. A result written around an England-facing rule is not a determination of your position in another nation.

Safety results are records, not a verdict

Safety pages report what official records show — for example OPSS alerts on GOV.UK product recalls and alerts, the EU Safety Gate, and, where we say so, the US CPSC.

We do not test products. We do not certify them. We do not say an item is safe, unsafe, or “fine for a baby”.

A “no matching recall” result means we did not find a matching official record in the sources we checked, on the identifiers you gave. It is not a clean bill of health. Identifiers can be missing, misread, or listed under another name. You still need to inspect the item and follow the manufacturer.

Second-hand checklists are prompts, not an inspection, and not a guarantee that a used cot, car seat, pram, or other product is fit to use.

Share cards and emails

Share cards and suggested posts are written so you can tell someone else about an estimate. They are not a claim of fact about your award. Cards are designed not to show income; do not add income, names, or postcodes before you post.

Emails and reminders, if you ask for them, are still information and guidance. They are not a deadline from a government department.

No professional relationship
