Which? compared a 48-pack of size 4 from 1 July 2023 to 30 June 2024 (regular discounts, not multibuys or loyalty). That table is the cite most round-ups repeat, and it sits behind a Which? login for the brand scores — the pence table in the buying guide is the open figure.

Which?’s own words are that there has been a fair amount of price matching, with Aldi, Tesco and others offering similar averages, and that all but one own-brand hit £2.89 at some point — about 6p each. That is why a page that crowns one logo “the cheapest” for good is not what the table shows.

Retail listings move. The rows below are 10 September 2026 tickets from Tesco groceries and Aldi’s Mamia brand page. Asda’s grocery site blocked the fetch used for this page, so Little Angels uses Which?’s published typical 48-pack price (£2.87 on the Which? review page) rather than a live Asda shelf.

Does a 6p ticket say which brand holds better?

No. This page is a unit-price method, not a lab review. Which? runs absorbency and leak tests and a parent survey (2,313 UK parents in February 2024) that rates brands on absorbency, fit, comfort, ease of use and value — those scores are behind the Which? login. A 0.1p gap on a year-average table is not a quality ranking.

If a pack leaks or rubs for your baby, the cheap pence is the wrong number to keep using. Fit is a different question from £/each.

Why can last month’s “6p” be wrong today?
