If TikTok or Amazon removed a listing, do I still need to check OPSS?
Is a removed listing the same as a recall?
No. On the Product Safety Database they are different corrective actions. The 2024 to 2025 annual report ranks import rejected at border first (35% of recorded actions), then destruction (19%), then removal of the listing by the online marketplace (13%), then recall of the product from end users (12%). A marketplace can take a page down without anyone writing to the last buyer.
The public notice, when there is one, may list both measures on the same page. The candle-warmer lamp sold via TikTok (`2606-0188`) is a product recall and records that TikTok removed the listing. The owner paragraph still tells you to contact the seller for redress if the fulfilment centre has not already reached you.
Official records show listing removal as a recorded measure. Official records do not show that every buyer was emailed. Not found on your order history ≠ the product was never notified.
What does an official TikTok or Amazon notice actually say?
Read the fields, then the corrective-action paragraph. Two published examples show why the shop page disappearing is not the end of the file.

Channel names in the title — "sold via TikTok", "sold via Amazon" — are identifiers, not a league table. The same model can appear on more than one site. Search the brand and the model code, not only the app you used.
Why do Which? and RoSPA still tell me to check after I have bought?
Because a listing can stay up after an OPSS alert, and because a listing can vanish after you have already paid. Which? published an investigation on 8 July 2026 that found 150 baby products across Amazon, eBay, Etsy, TikTok Shop and other marketplaces in categories already covered by OPSS alerts — self-feeders, infant sleep pillows and sleeping bags that Which? says do not meet the relevant British Standards. Several platforms told Which? they then removed the flagged pages. Removal after a journalist’s email is not the same as a letter to everyone who ordered last month.
RoSPA’s shopping-online advice is to check the UK government’s product-recall page before you buy, and to be extra careful with products for babies and children. It also notes that cheap or counterfeit listings may not meet UK standards. That is a reason to keep the GOV.UK list in the loop after checkout, not a ranking of which app is "better".
Which? and RoSPA describe marketplace risk in general terms. This page does not grade Amazon, TikTok, eBay or Etsy, and it is not a used-pram or car-boot inspection.
I already have the item — what do I search?
- Photograph every label Brand, model, batch, barcode, seller name and the order date. Marketplace titles are rewritten often; the label is what the notice will match.
- Search the public OPSS list Use Product Safety Alerts, Reports and Recalls. Try the brand, the model code and the words "TikTok" or "Amazon" only as extras, not as the only query.
- Read the owner paragraph If the notice says contact the seller, the fulfilment centre or the manufacturer, use that route. If it says the listing was removed and nothing else, you still have the hazard text — do not invent a refund.
- Use MayTally as a shortcut for baby kit The safety lookup shows official wording for a hand-picked set of OPSS notices. If the model is not there, the GOV.UK list is the record.
The Lullaby Trust’s second-hand checklist still splits standards and recalls into two steps, and tells you to search "product recalls" on GOV.UK. A deleted shop page does not complete either step.
The seller says the listing was removed — is that my notice?
It is evidence that a page came down. It is not the OPSS record. TikTok Shop told Which? it issues notices to customers when it removes flagged products; that is a platform process, and it is not a substitute for the GOV.UK paragraph when one exists. Amazon, eBay and others told Which? they removed the items they were shown. None of those replies is a PSD case number you can file.
If no public notice matches, you have no recall on file for that wording. That is not a clearance of the unit, and it is not proof Trading Standards never logged a border rejection or a destroyed consignment on the PSD.
In shortDelisted is a shop action. The OPSS notice, when there is one, is the owner action. Search the GOV.UK list for the labels in your hands. Not found ≠ told, and not found ≠ cleared.
Is this a guide to inspecting a used pram or a car-boot buy?
No. This page is only the gap between a vanished marketplace card and the public OPSS record. For a used pushchair, the stamp hunt is a separate label check. For marks at the time of sale versus later notices, see UKCA is not an OPSS check.
Questions parents ask
- The app chat says "this item is no longer available". Do I still search OPSS?
- Yes. "No longer available" is a shop state. The OPSS list is where a validated recall, report or alert is published. Search the brand and model from the label, not only the old URL.
- Does a 13% figure mean most recalled baby products were only delisted?
- No. That 13% is of all corrective actions recorded on the PSD in 2024 to 2025, across every product category. It shows delisting is a common official measure. It is not a baby-kit percentage and not a claim about one marketplace.
- Which? found 150 products — is that an official recall list?
- No. It is a Which? snapshot (8 July 2026) of listings the researchers judged to sit in categories already covered by OPSS alerts. Use it as a reason to keep checking the GOV.UK list, not as a substitute for it.
- Should I buy from a different marketplace instead?
- This page does not rank shops. RoSPA’s advice is to check official markings and the government recall page, and to be cautious with baby products sold online. The notice that names your model is the record that matters after you have paid.
