Is a nappy-change zip sleeping bag worth the extra in the UK?
What does the extra zip actually change?
A nappy-change zip is a second opening — often a curved or dual zip — so you can reach the nappy without peeling the bag fully off the shoulders. Snüz markets SnüzPouch as "the nappy change sleeping bag". Review round-ups treat that curve as the feature. It does not replace the Lullaby Trust checks: weight, fit at the neck and shoulders, tog, and BS EN 16781:2018.
A standard supermarket bag still has a zip. You open it, change the nappy, close it. The extra is time and how much of the baby you uncover at 2am, not a different safer-sleep product class. Snüz's own 18–36 month line even drops the curved zip for a dual opening — the feature is sized, not universal.
This is a feature-premium page, not a product crown. A bag that fails the weight or EN line is not "worth it" because the zip is curved.

On those figures the premium is about £12–£25 per bag against a typical own-brand 0–6 month line, or one extra branded bag instead of the second NHS spare. Newborns can need several night changes. The maths is nights you will actually use the curve, not a review score.
Do I still need the right weight and tog?
Yes. The Lullaby Trust's dress-for-sleep rules do not add an exception for a nappy zip. Buy to weight, keep the neck and shoulders fitted, match tog to the room, and do not put a blanket on top of the bag.
- Weight first. A curved zip on a 0–6 month bag still has a minimum kilogram line. A too-big neck is the same problem as on a plain bag.
- Tog second. NHS commercial-bag figures: 2.5 tog for 16–20°C, 1.0 tog for 20–24°C, 0.5 tog for 24–27°C. Pay for the zip on the tog you will use, not on a print.
- Spare third. One £30 bag in the wash is the same gap as one £8 bag in the wash. The NHS sleeping-bag option is two bags.
When is the extra harder to justify?
- You do not yet have two bags in the right weight band — the spare is the first extra, not the curve.
- Night changes are already done on a changing mat with the bag fully opened; the curve would not change the routine.
- The baby is about to move weight band, so a 0–6 month premium bag has few weeks left.
- The listing is a marketplace "nappy zip" bag without an EN mark, hood, or missing armholes — that is a listing problem, not a feature upgrade. See what to check before you click.
In shortPay for a nappy-change zip only after weight, tog and EN 16781 already match. On 10 September 2026 the extra was roughly £12–£25 against own-brand. A standard unzip still changes a nappy. There is no official crown for the curve.
Questions parents ask
- Does a nappy-change zip make the bag a different safer-sleep product?
- No. Official pages still want a bag fitted by weight, snug at the neck and shoulders, in the right tog, with no extra bedding on top. The zip is access, not a new class of product.
- Can I skip the second bag if I paid extra for the zip?
- The NHS what-to-buy line is two sleeping bags if that is your option. A premium zip does not dry faster. Budget the spare first.
- Is SnüzPouch the only bag with this feature?
- No. It is the name review pages repeat. Other makers use two-way or bottom zips. Compare the opening on the product photo and the EN / weight lines, not the round-up winner.
- What about 18–36 month bags advertised with the same name?
- Snüz states those sizes use a dual-opening zip rather than the curved nappy zip. Read the size you are buying. A name on the range is not the same feature on every size.
