What is the difference between nappy pants and taped nappies?

Which? describes nappy pants as similar to taped nappies, but you pull them on over the legs like pants instead of fastening sticky tabs. They have an elasticated waist and sides you can tear to take them off. Weight bands usually start around size 3 (about 6–11kg) and run up to size 8. That is a disposable nappy pant, not a cloth nappy and not a supermarket 'night pant' sold for potty training.

The unit-price question only works when size and absorbency match: Mamia baby pants size 5 versus Mamia taped size 5, Fred & Flo easy-fit pants size 4 versus Fred & Flo tapes size 4, Little Angels pants versus Little Angels tapes. A size-5 pant next to a size-4 tape is a size step, not a style premium.

Are pants dearer per nappy on the same brand?

Often yes, on the printed £/each, because pants use more elastic and a different cut, and the bag usually holds fewer pieces than the taped jumbo beside it. How do I compare pants and tapes this week at Tesco, Asda and Aldi?

When might pants still be the cheaper week?

When the ticket gap is small and taped changes are messy enough that you use extras. Which? notes that pulling pants on is often quicker on a wriggly toddler and supports a standing change. Extra tapes used because a lying-down change failed are not on the shelf ticket. A 2p-per-nappy pant premium can be smaller than two wasted tapes in a day.

That is still not a reason to skip the unit line. Do the same-size £/each first. Then, if you already know pants are the nappy that stays on, the dearer style can be the cheaper week of clothes and extra packs.
