Does the OPSS recalls list include baby food, medicines or cars?

What does GOV.UK say the OPSS list excludes?

The Product Recalls and Alerts hub is explicit: the OPSS list does not cover food and drink, vehicles, or medicines and medical devices. It points to three other official sites. The reporting page repeats the same agency split.

Where do I check a baby-food or formula recall?

On the food-standards registers, not on OPSS. The Food Standards Agency issues Product Recall Information Notices and allergy alerts for food sold in the UK. Food Standards Scotland publishes its own news and alerts for Scotland. A parent-site round-up that puts a Cow & Gate jar next to a highchair notice is mixing two legal systems.

PlayPennies, for example, reported a Cow & Gate Cheesy Broccoli Bake jar recall using a Food Standards Agency statement (batch 28122020 on that article). That is an FSA food notice. Typing “Cow & Gate” only into the OPSS box is the wrong door.

Infant formula is food. If a tin is recalled, the official wording sits with FSA or FSS, not with a missing row on the OPSS kit list.

Where do medicines and medical devices sit?

With the MHRA alerts list. That feed covers medicines recalls, field safety notices and device safety information. A pharmacy medicine, a prescribed device, or a product the MHRA treats as a medical device will not be completed by an OPSS kit search.

If you are unsure whether an item is a consumer product or a medical device, use both registries and ask the seller or a clinician which regulator applies. MayTally does not classify devices.

Do cars and child car seats appear on the OPSS list?

Vehicles are excluded from the OPSS hub. DVSA's checker lets you look up a car by registration, or a part or accessory by manufacturer and model. The checker page lists child car seats under parts or accessories, alongside seat belts, tyres and other components.

That is a different database from OPSS notices for nursery kit. This article does not reopen model-by-model car-seat recall records. If you need the vehicle-accessory checker, use the GOV.UK DVSA page and the maker's own safety notice.

Why do parent sites mix FSA notices with kit recalls?

Because a mum searching “baby recall” wants one list, and blogs often sort by audience (parents) rather than by regulator. Officially there is no single UK baby-everything register. OPSS covers consumer products; FSA/FSS cover food; MHRA covers medicines and devices; DVSA covers vehicles and named accessories.

Use the parent-site article as a pointer, then open the regulator it actually quotes. If the quote is FSA, the OPSS list will look empty even when a food notice is live.

How do I pick the right register in one pass?

In shortOPSS is the consumer-product list. Food, vehicles and medicines are written out of that list on GOV.UK. Open FSA or FSS, DVSA or MHRA for those. An empty OPSS search for a jar or a tablet is the wrong empty.
