What is the difference between Specialbuys and the Mamia aisle?

Aldi runs two baby price systems in the same store. The Mamia aisle is the standing range: nappies, wipes, nappy sacks, formula and some toiletries, on the shelf any week. Specialbuys are the Thursday / Sunday middle-aisle drops. A Baby & Toddler week adds a short list of one-shot kit. Aldi's Understanding Specialbuys page says those lines are exclusively in store and, once they are gone, they are gone.

That is why a single "is the event cheaper?" answer fails. A 60-pack of Extra Sensitive wipes does not compete with a learning tower. A change mat in the event list competes with "do we already own one?", not with the jumbo nappy pack.

Which? compared Aldi and Lidl own-brand nappies in the lab and on pack price (data window 1–30 June 2024). That work sits on the aisle, not on the Specialbuys table. This page does not repeat a pence-per-nappy grid.

Which categories belong on the aisle, and which on the event table?

Mumsnet threads on past Aldi baby events already do the wipe-box arithmetic: an event multipack only wins if you divide by the wipe count and beat the aisle 6-pack. Without that count on the January 2026 press list, the honest move is to photograph the event box in store and divide.

How do I compare an event pack with the aisle before I queue?

Use this only for the same job — wipes versus wipes, not wipes versus a play gym.

When is the everyday aisle the cheaper trip?

Most weeks, the cheaper Aldi baby shop is not an event. You can buy Mamia nappies and wipes on any Thursday without queuing for a learning tower. Which?'s monthly grocery basket still placed Aldi lowest in August 2026 (£159.36 for its 92-item food and household list). That figure is not a baby-event trolley, but it is the same everyday-low-price system the Mamia shelf uses.

• Consumables you will finish — nappies, wipes, sacks, formula — belong on the standing shelf.
• Softs you will use up — muslins, bibs, a hooded towel — are the event lines that most often replace a high-street shop.
• One-shot kit — change mat, potty, books — only if you do not already own one.
• Headline sleep or travel products — compare the label and the room you have, not the event poster. A British Standard on the box is not the same as safer-sleep advice from the Lullaby Trust.

When is the middle aisle worth a separate trip?

A separate Thursday trip pays when the leaflet lists something already on your need list at a price you would have paid elsewhere, and your branch is likely to still have it. August 2026 press listed bibs and muslins at £2.49 and That's Not My books at £2.99 — small lines that are easy to use up. The same list also had a £24.99 play gym and a £24.99 Rapid Cool. Those only win if you were buying that job anyway.

Do not use the event to "stock" nappies you can buy next week at the same shelf price. Do not treat a leftover "while stocks last" Mamia toilet trainer on the brand page as an aisle staple — on 10 September 2026 that line was still flagged as limited stock from the August drop.
