Which middle aisle is worth it — Aldi or Lidl baby event?

How do the Aldi and Lidl baby-event formats differ?

Calendars go stale in a week. The useful comparison is how each supermarket sells the middle aisle.

What does Lidl Plus change at the till?

Lidl Plus is an app price, not a voucher-code dump. The offer copy on Lidl's own site says: present the offer at purchase, available to Lidl Plus account holders aged 18 or over in Lidl GB branches, subject to availability, and the full item list lives in the app. A coupon on overall spend is applied after the line offer.

The Liverpool Echo's 31 August 2026 middle-aisle preview is a worked example from the September Baby & Toddler week: Peppa Pig and Bluey 12-inch balance bikes at £24.99 with Lidl Plus, down from a regular £29.99. The same piece listed a Lupilu baby bouncer and a Bebeconfort Nola learning tower at £29.99 each, Quick Close+ gates at £19.99, and Lupilu activity gyms at £17.99 — those figures were the listed event prices, not extra codes.

Without the app you still pay the ticket price on the aisle. The app does not reserve stock. On 10 September 2026 Lidl's upcoming Plus page had already rolled to the 17–23 September week — the Baby & Toddler window had closed.

How long does each event last, and when should I go?

Aldi's clock is stock. Press language is "while stocks last" from the first Thursday. A headline line can vanish before lunch in one branch and sit into the next week in another. Lidl's last pinned UK week had a start and end date (3–9 September 2026) plus the usual "while stocks last" on individual SKUs. Popular toys still go on day one; weaning spoons and books often last longer.

  • Aldi first morning — if the leaflet shows a one-shot you already planned to buy (change mat, muslins, a named sleep product).
  • Lidl during the week, with the app open — if the line you want is a Plus price, or if you can wait out the first-day queue for books and weaning kit.
  • Neither middle aisle — if you only need nappies and wipes. That is the Mamia / Lupilu shelf on any shop.

Which shop is worth the first trip?

Which?'s August 2026 grocery basket put Aldi at £159.36 and Lidl at £161.10 for the same 92 food and household items. That is not a baby-event trolley, but it is why neither discounter "wins" on nappies alone — Which?'s separate nappy page already called the pack prices almost identical.

  1. Open both leaflets (or the Echo-style preview) and tick only items already on your need list.
  2. Mark any Lidl line that is a Plus price — without the app, use the regular ticket.
  3. For sleep kit, read the label against Lullaby Trust checks (firm, flat, waterproof, British Standard). An event price does not change those checks.
  4. If both stores list a learning tower or gate, compare the model name and the room you have, not the colour of the aisle.

In shortPick Aldi for a one-shot Thursday Specialbuy you already planned to buy. Pick Lidl when a dated Baby & Toddler week lists that job and you will use Lidl Plus at the till. For weekly nappies, either aisle is the everyday shop — the event poster is optional.

What should I ignore from last year's date lists?

Baby Event UK keeps useful history (Aldi baby Thursdays; Lidl often January and September) and some stale hedges ("some Aldi Specialbuys may appear online"). Aldi's own 2026 explainer still says Specialbuys are in store only. Lidl's January 2026 page on that site listed more than 90 middle-of-Lidl lines from 11 January — treat that as a past drop, not this week's stock.

Do not invent the next Thursday. Confirm the live Aldi leaflet and the Lidl app's "items included" list on the morning you travel.

Questions parents ask

Is Lidl Plus a voucher code I can type in at the till?
No. Lidl's own offer text says to present the offer at purchase from the app. It is an account-holder price in GB branches, not a public code list.
Can I buy the Lidl baby event online?
Baby Event UK and the local previews we checked treat the range as in-store middle aisle. The Plus offers we read are for in-store use. Confirm the app if a later drop adds a different channel.
Did Aldi or Lidl win Which?'s grocery basket?
In August 2026 Which? put Aldi at £159.36 and Lidl at £161.10 for 92 food and household items. That is not a scoring of the baby middle aisle.
Which event lasts longer?
Aldi is while stocks last from the drop day. Lidl's September 2026 week was dated 3–9 September, with individual lines still limited. Neither format is a month-long Clubcard-style sale.
