Is Emma's Diary NHS or a marketing club?

Who actually runs Emma's Diary?

The legal operator on the terms page, updated 22 March 2024 and re-checked 10 September 2026, is Lifecycle Marketing Group Ltd and its subsidiaries (LMG). The footer on gift-pack pages still lists Lifecycle Marketing, St Cloud Gate, Maidenhead. Everyday Health Group announced in 2022 that it had acquired Lifecycle Marketing; Everyday Health Group is a division of Ziff Davis. Ziff Davis's FY2025 Form 10-K still names Emma's Diary as a United Kingdom pregnancy-and-parenting brand in that portfolio.

Emma's Diary is not the NHS, not NICE, and not a government baby-box scheme. An NHS Business Services Authority contracts-finder notice for 'Emma's Diary Advertising' is an advertising-services contract, not ownership of the club.

Why do the guides appear at the GP or with the midwife?

Emma's Diary's pregnancy-guide page has long said the booklet is available from your GP or midwife, that a healthcare editorial team of GPs and midwives reviews it, and that the copy is aligned with NHS, NICE and Unicef Baby Friendly Initiative guidelines. That is the publisher describing its own process. It does not make the booklet an NHS publication.

A historic Royal College of Midwives Alliance Partner page (still on an RCM UAT hostname) described Emma's Diary as a partner and set out a labour-information pack for the 34-week check. The live RCM Alliance Partners page on 10 September 2026 listed Slimming World and Pregnacare. It did not list Emma's Diary. Treat the UAT page as old partner copy, not as proof of a current college endorsement.

What did Which? and the ICO actually record?

Two dated records get mixed up with 'the NHS club'. Neither turns Emma's Diary into a hospital department. Both are about data and tracking, which is the marketing-club half of the question.

Which? figures are from the 9 June 2021 article only — they are not a 2026 cookie scan. ICO figures are from the 5 November 2018 report and the Information Commissioner's 2 October 2020 letter recording that Emma's Diary paid £140,000 on 29 August 2018. Current partner sharing is described on Emma's Diary Data FAQs and the live privacy notice.

Today the Data FAQs say life-stage data times content, offers and freebies, and that third-party partners are how those offers are supplied. Preferences are changed in the Preference Centre. The gift-pack terms still say no medical authority endorses the samples.

Where should health questions go instead?

Emma's Diary terms state that the sites do not replace professional medical advice and that you should consult a physician or other health-care professional. For UK public-service pages use:

  • NHS Start for Life — pregnancy, feeding and early-years health in official wording.
  • NHS pregnancy — antenatal appointments, labour and birth choices on the NHS site.
  • Your midwife, GP or maternity unit — the people who hold your notes.
  • Club gift packs and Argos bags — samples and vouchers, not a care plan. See Your Baby Club vs Emma's Diary.

In short, is it NHS?

In shortNo. Emma's Diary is a Lifecycle Marketing / Everyday Health / Ziff Davis club that supplies guides some surgeries still stock and samples you collect after you share pregnancy details. 'Aligned with NHS and NICE' is the publisher's content claim. Clinical questions belong on NHS Start for Life or with your midwife.

Questions parents ask

If my midwife handed me the booklet, is that an NHS leaflet?
It is stock your surgery chose to hold. The imprint and operator remain Lifecycle Marketing, not NHS England, NHS Scotland or a health board. Ask your midwife which leaflets are local NHS print and which are publisher copies.
Does a past ICO penalty mean I should avoid the club?
The ICO record is from 2018 and is public. It does not, by itself, tell you how today's Preference Centre works. Read the live privacy notice and untick partner channels you do not want. MayTally does not tell you to join or to leave.
Is the Which? cookie count still true in 2026?
This page only restates the 9 June 2021 Which? article and the company's reply in that piece. Cookie counts change. The 2021 article is historical; it is not a new scan.
Is Scotland's Baby Box the same organisation?
No. Scotland's Baby Box is a Scottish Government scheme via the midwife — Your Baby Club vs Scotland Baby Box. Emma's Diary is a private club.
