Can I buy an add-on baby monitor camera under £50 in the UK instead of a second set?

What does an add-on camera actually include?

An add-on is a camera only. The box should list a baby unit and a power adapter. It does not include a second parent screen. You are paying to put another room on the handset you already own — twins, a toddler plus a newborn, or the downstairs play space.

That only works if the extra camera is sold for your exact model family. Marketing names jump around (MaxView, PRO, V24, V24R). The code printed on the back of the parent unit is the one that matters.

A £50 Wi-Fi camera sold on its own is not an add-on. It talks to a phone app, not to the dedicated parent unit already on your bedside table.

Why will a cheap extra camera refuse to pair?

How do I check compatibility before I buy?

When is a second full set the cheaper option?

A second set wins when any of these are true:

• Your current model has no UK extra camera (or the extra is out of stock and the twin pack is not).
• The matching extra is over £50 and a complete budget video or audio kit is less.
• Two adults each want a parent unit in hand. An add-on camera does not solve that if the brand allows only one screen.
