What is the actual difference in the UK?

Cubo sells a phone-only smart camera. MadeForMums’ June 2025 review of the CuboAi Plus 3 flags that it can only be used with a phone and that connecting to new Wi-Fi (including on holiday) is extra work. Motorola Connect kits such as VM85 Connect and VM64 Connect keep a dedicated parent unit on a local 2.4 GHz FHSS link and add Wi-Fi through Motorola Nursery or Hubble. Which? lists the VM85 Connect in its Wi-Fi video test set (page checked July 2026). Cubo does not appear as a scored row on that same public list — so this page does not invent a Which? score for Cubo.

What still works if the Wi-Fi drops?

On Cubo, the product is the app. Cubo’s Care page still assumes a paired camera on the household network; MadeForMums described lag and sound glitches after connection issues. There is no second screen in the box.

On Motorola Connect, the VM85 / VM64 guides separate Parent Unit registration from Wi-Fi / app setup. The handset is pre-registered. A router reboot can kill Hubble or Nursery while the local picture stays. That is the hybrid bargain: you carry a second battery, and you keep a picture when the broadband dies.

Which? has also explained why a cheap security camera is a poor nursery stand-in (angle, temperature, sound lights). Cubo and Motorola Connect are sold as baby monitors — they are still not a clinical movement monitor on the Lullaby Trust CONI list.

Who holds the screen for a babysitter?

Cubo’s help centre lists family sharing on Basic. A sitter needs a phone, the invite, and working Wi-Fi. MadeForMums liked having the feed in a pocket and disliked the lack of a separate monitor for their household.

Motorola Connect: charge the parent unit, show the sitter Talk and volume, and leave the phone app logged out if you do not want remote access on. The NCSC’s smart-device guidance still applies if the camera remains on Wi-Fi — unique passwords, updates, and remote access off when you do not need it.

What do I pay after the first year?

Cubo: the complimentary Premium year starts at first pair. After it ends, the UK page leaves basic camera functions unless you buy Premium or Ultimate at the then-current in-app price. MadeForMums’ snapshot (June 2025) was £3.75 / £5.83 a month. Confirm in the app the week you decide — Cubo says the figure can move.

Motorola Connect: the handset does not expire with Cubo Care. Some Motorola Nursery features (24-hour event history and similar) are sold as an optional in-app extra; that is not the same contract as CuboAi Care, and this page does not invent a Motorola monthly rate. Which? also tells buyers to ask how long a smart model will keep getting updates.

Do Cubo’s AI alerts make the cot safer than a Motorola handset?

No such claim belongs here. Cubo markets covered-face and rollover detection on Premium; those are app alerts. The Lullaby Trust states there is no research showing monitors prevent SIDS, and a monitor cannot replace you in the room for the first six months. Official records do not grade Cubo AI against a Motorola parent unit as a safer-sleep device.
