How do I check a second-hand Philips Avent SCD620 against the recall serial list?

Which type numbers does the UK notice actually name?

The Office for Product Safety and Standards published Product Recall: Philips Avent Digital Video Baby Monitor (2306-0004) on 5 July 2023. The product is a white and grey video set: camera plus a separate parent-unit screen. The published hazard is a risk of fire because the battery in the parent unit may overheat while the product is plugged into the mains. Electrical Safety First repeats the same type-number list and the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 wording.

The notice asks anyone who holds an affected unit to stop using it and to follow Philips’s recall page. That route is written for the product, including a second-hand SCD620 found on Vinted or Facebook Marketplace.

How do I read the stickers on a used SCD620?

You need the parent unit, not the camera and not a listing title. Used ads often say “Philips Avent video monitor” and show only the front of the screen.

   Find the type-number sticker Turn the parent unit over. Under the Philips / Avent marking you should see a product type such as SCD620 or SCD620/79. OPSS lists the eight stems above. Which?’s January 2020 report listed seven SCD620/xx suffixes for the earlier voluntary notice.

   Find the serial sticker A second sticker on the same underside carries the serial. Which? reported that Philips’s 2020 SCD620 notice named serials beginning TM5A, TM5B or TM5C. The 2023 OPSS notice covers more type numbers and tells you to enter the full serial on Philips’s page.

   Use the Philips checker Open the recall URL printed on the GOV.UK notice and type the full serial. That is the check OPSS names. A prefix that is not TM5A/B/C does not finish the job for SCD625, SCD630, SCD831, SCD833, SCD841, SCD843 or SCD845.

   If the unit is in the notice Stop using it. Do not sell it on. Follow the contact route on Philips’s page. Each notice sets its own remedy; this page does not process claims.

Do TM5A, TM5B and TM5C cover every type number on the 2023 notice?

Those three prefixes are what Which? published for the SCD620 series in January 2020. The later OPSS card (July 2023) adds SCD625, SCD630, SCD831, SCD833, SCD841, SCD843 and SCD845 and a sales window through January 2020. It does not reprint a prefix table. Treat TM5A/B/C as a published SCD620 clue, then still run the full serial through Philips’s checker for any of the eight type numbers.

A type number that is not on that list is outside notice 2306-0004. That is not an all-clear for other faults, other years, or a swapped battery. Search the type number on GOV.UK again in case a later notice is added.

The Vinted photo is only the front of the screen. What now?

Ask for a photograph of the bottom stickers before you travel. Without a type number you cannot tell an SCD620 from a later Avent screen. Without a serial you cannot use Philips’s checker. If the seller will not photograph the underside, you cannot apply this notice.

• Matching camera — the notice describes a camera plus parent unit. A screen-only listing still carries the battery named in the hazard line.
• Original plug — the published risk is overheat while plugged into the electrical outlet. A random USB brick is a different product from the set Philips sold.
• Grey imports — the UK notice and the Philips .co.uk checker are the Great Britain record. A US-spec unit may not match these type numbers.

What if Philips’s page says the serial is not affected?

Then this notice does not list that serial. That is “no match on the Philips checker for 2306-0004”, not a test of the battery in front of you. Search the type number on GOV.UK and Safety Gate as well. The Lullaby Trust’s position remains that a monitor is not a substitute for safer-sleep practice.
